The International History

GUINNESS's history began in Dublin, Ireland, more than 200 years ago when, in 1759, Arthur Guinness founded a business, which was to become one of the world's leading brewing companies. He soon started to brew a new dark roasted barely beer which he called extra stout porter. Today it is the most famous black beer in the world,
GUINNESS stout.

The company's international profile was established early, with flourishing exports of a strong stout brewed to survive long sea voyages. In the 20th century, brewing began to expand overseas, often in partnership with local brewers.

GUINNESS stout is still the jewel in the crown of the company portfolio and is the world's leading stout brand, brewed in 50 countries and

sold in around 150 countries across the world. Today, however, it has been joined by an impressive group of other distinctive beers, including international brands like Harp Lager, Kilkenny Irish Beer and Kaliber alcohol-free Lager and powerful local brands like Spain's Cruzcampo Lager and Ireland's Smithwick's Ale.
The Seychelles History
GUINNESS Foreign Extra Stout was the world's first global beer brand to be brewed and bottled in the Seychelles, following a purchase of 26% of Seychelles Breweries Ltd shares by GUINNESS Ltd in 1972.
GUINNESS had been in Seychelles already a good number of years before this important launch, imported by local agents for tourist establishments, and was being enjoyed by local drinkers alike. It required then no immediate consumer research to determine its future.
Today GUINNESS is positioned at the top of Seychelles Breweries beer portfolio in terms of profitability.

Did you know?
The key ingredients in GUINNESS are roasted barley, malted barley, hops, yeasts and water.

GUINNESS is black because of the way the ingredients are prepared. Some malted barley are roasted, in a similar way to coffee beans, which is what gives GUINNESS the ruby rich dark colour.

GUINNESS is brewed in 50 countries and sold in 150 across the four continents

10 million glasses of GUINNESS are enjoyed every single day around the world.

There are 20 variants of GUINNESS stout around the world.

Draught GUINNESS is no more fattening or calorific than any other beer of similar alcoholic strength. The beer has no fat, however it does contain protein, sugar, carbohydrates and alcohol. The alcohol accounts for 65-70% of the calorific content irrespective of the beer in question. Per pint, GUINNESS Draught has 196 calories; as a reference, one pint of semi-skimmed milk has 260 calories and one pint of orange juice has 220 calories. GUINNESS Draught actually has fewer calories than most other premium beers and lagers.
