On
Sunday 7th October 2001, the famous Beau Vallon beach went
all orange with the very first Fanta Orange sponsored beach
volleyball fiesta.
Two temporary volleyball courts had been set up right in front
of the popular Baobab Pizzeria to accommodate what was to
be a lengthy but enjoyable volleyball contest.
Fifty-two teams
of two players had registered under very interesting
names. At 10am the referee whistled the start of the
first games from the juniors' category.
By
midday, the bartenders from the Fanta kiosk were extremely
busy pouring exclusive ice cold Fanta into plastic cups
to quench the thirst of players and spectators alike.
The event was at its peak since the seniors had started
playing and DJ Simeon was giving them the latest dance
mix. The event saw the participation of famous volleyball
players with the likes of Annie Dugasse and Bernard
Bijoux, which guaranteed exciting finals.
At the end of the day whilst the sun set over Silhouette
Island, Denis Payette, Marketing Manager presented the
winners with their prizes, which comprised of Fanta
branded beach towels and other interesting garments
and soft drinks. The hard working officials also received
a gift.
The
Fanta Beach Volleyball fiesta was organised in collaboration
with the Seychelles Beach Volleyball Federation (SBVF), led
by its Chairman, Clepert Pothin and Coca-Cola Brand Supervisor,
Christine Rasera. It is intended to repeat the activity next
year. There cannot be a successful Beach Volleyball without
Fanta as Fanta enriches the fun element.
